Elderly are an integral part of a population of any country who owe respect and attention equally like any other section. However, due to changing family structure and modernization, elderly population is facing inevitable challenges to live their life respectfully. The study, on human rights of older persons in India, found that over 23.3% elderly were living in inhuman conditions and facing violations of human rights and around 12.9% older persons revealed they were not getting proper food.
Approximately, every third elderly in the country is not getting proper medicine/health care in old age. Every second older person is not getting due respect or good treatment from his/her family member/society. 47.4% older persons were discriminated because of their Age, they accepted that due to their age they were humiliated occasionally or treated disrespectfully,” the study done in November 2017 found.
Keeping In view of the above facts and figures Project SAHYOG was conceptualized by Unity In Action Foundation. Project Sahyog aims at supporting the elderly population of Delhi –NCR who have abandoned or abused due to economic and social factors. This will be done by organizing Ration Distribution Drives, Health Screening Programmes, Winter Clothes Distribution Drives and Medicines Distribution Drives. The Programme Team of Unity in Action Foundation will onboard Project Implementing Partners in form of Old Age Homes and the beneficaries of these Old Age Homes will receive Dry Ration and Medical Support. The Ration and Medicines will be procured directly from reliable distributors and procured for further distribution. The quality of all the distribution material will be inspected by the Programme Team.
The activities conducted under this project are as follows
- To provide nutritious meals and distribute dry ration amongst elderly population
- To facilitate Nursing care for seniors with various needs, including tracheotomy, bed sores, and Ryle's tube feeding
- To conduct Regular medical check-ups and treatment support to elderly people from vulnerable background
- To distribute Winter Clothes amongst project beneficaries
- To develop assisted living services and old age homes through convergence with different government schemes
